A Texas father has reacted after learning his girlfriend was arrested and charged in connection to the disappearance of his missing son.

“I don’t know what’s going on. I found out what happened last night,” the boy’s father, Dalton Olson, told KPRC2 on Wednesday. “I can barely breathe.”

“Why? He loved you so much. I do not understand what happened. Why did you, why did you do this?”

According to TooFab, authorities charged Theresa Balboa with tampering with evidence after they found the child’s body stuffed inside a tote bag in a motel where she was located.

If the body is identified as the missing child, Samuel Olson, it’s expected that Balboa will face additional charges.

An anonymous tip came in on Tuesday night, Houston police reported. They went out to the motel in Jasper, where they found the body in the tote bag.

Apparently, the girlfriend was the first to report the child missing on May 27. However, the last time he was actually seen was on the last day of school, April 30.

Balboa’s story was that the boy left with his biological mother Sarah Olson when she came to her house with a person dressed as a police officer and demanded that the boy go with her.

Balboa claimed that she was forced to let him go with his mother and the “police officer due to her lack of legal rights.”

“She just pointed and said, ‘That’s my son. She took him. Gimme my son back.’ That was it,” she told ABC13 in an interview Monday. “The rest of the conversation was between me and the officer…or what I was under the impression was a police officer.”

According to Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Heather Morris, Olson denied the story, and police have no record of sending an officer out to the home the day in question.

“Missing persons investigators discovered inconsistencies in Miss Balboa’s statements and consulted the homicide division,” Morris said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Balboa was arrested Tuesday night at the Best Western motel, located more than 100 miles from where the soon-to-be 6-year-old went missing.
Authorities have not said how the boy died, and they are also not ruling out the father as a suspect. However, at the time, he is not a suspect in the case.

“I’m not going to say that the father is a person of interest… but he is definitely somebody that we can continue to talk to and get information from,” she specified.

Balboa was out on bond for a previous arrest involving Dalton. She assaulted him “with intent to impede breath” by choking him during a previous altercation.
