The FBI has complied with a Justice Department directive, handing over a list of more than 5,000 employees who were involved in investigations related to the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, according to sources familiar with the matter.
This move has sparked serious concern within the FBI, as many agents fear the list could be used by the Trump administration to target personnel for termination. The anxiety follows a memo sent by Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove on Friday, which had the subject line “Terminations.” The memo demanded that FBI officials submit the names by noon on Tuesday, raising alarms about potential political retaliation.
The list reportedly includes over 5,000 agents and analysts who played key roles in the high-profile investigations into the Capitol riot, where supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
The situation is unfolding as tensions remain high over the political implications of the January 6 investigations.
