An FBI informant was found dead on a California high school campus.
On Monday morning, around 6:40 a.m., a cleaning crew at Woodrow Wilson High School found the body of 45-year-old Valentin Broeksmit. The victim, who was described as a “comically terrible spy,” was believed to have worked with federal authorities to look into Deutsche Bank and its connection to Donald Trump.
There are no details about how Broeksmit got there or how long he’d been there. No footage showed him going onto the campus.
The last time Broeksmit was seen was on April 6, 2021, in Griffith Park on Riverside Drive, CBS News reports. At the time, he was driving a red Mini Cooper. His Twitter account was still active, and several people, including friends and journalists, all claimed to have been communicating with him despite his disappearance.
Forensics News investigative journalist Scott Stedman, who last spoke to Broeksmit in January, wrote Broeksmit told him about “Deutsche Bank documents that highlighted the bank’s deep Russia connections.” Stedman says he doesn’t believe Broeksmit’s death was a homicide.
“It is very sad,” he said. “I don’t suspect foul play. Val struggled with drugs on and off. Waiting on further info.”
