The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest after a pair of pipe bombs were found near the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
According to the Miami Herald, the FBI reported that police at the U.S. Capitol responded to reports of “a suspected pipe bomb with wires” outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., around 1 p.m. and again 15 minutes later.
Investigators found the suspicious devices and determined they were, “in fact, hazardous and could cause great harm to public safety,” U.S. Capitol Chief of Police Steven Sund said. After the riots, Sund submitted a letter of resignation.
The FBI released a bulletin on Thursday that included an image of a person of interest who was seen carrying a large black bag and wearing a hoodie but didn’t allude to how the person in the picture is connected to the pipe bomb incidents.
The FBI is asking the public to submit any information to an anonymous tip hotline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
