FC Barcelona is celebrating Drake’s Spotify accomplishment by wearing a special OVO jersey during Sunday’s El Clásico.
On Friday, news broke that Barcelona will be wearing a custom jersey with a OVO logo for their game against Real Madrid. The change of jerseys signifies Drake being the first artist to gain 50 billion streams on spotify.
The Canadian rapper showed off his appreciation for the jersey in an Instagram post.
“To celebrate being the first artist with 50 billion streams on Spotify, FC Barcelona will wear the OVO owl at El Clasico on Sunday 😵💫 this doesn’t feel real but it is,” he wrote.
In the past, Barcelona has maintained being a sacred brand by refusing sponsor kits. However, in the mid-to-early 2000s, Barcelona have moved passed that ideology and accepted partnerships with UNICEF and now Spotify.
“We were really excited to celebrate one of the biggest games of the year and mark Drake’s milestone as the first artist to reach 50 billion streams. We’ve always said that we want this partnership to be a celebration of fans, players and artist’s on a global stages. And there’s no bigger stage than El Clásico,” Spotify‘s VP of Marketing says.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are currently tied with records of seven wins and one draw. The two teams will go head to head on Sunday.
