The Greek Freak is taking his talents to Disney + for a brand new feature film about his life and career in the NBA.
According to Deadline, the forthcoming streaming service has commissioned the story of the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and now, the feature film is in development with the company’s live-action film division.
The film will be produced by former Disney and Village Roadshow Pictures exec Bernie Goldman, and the script will be written by Arash Amel, writer of “A Private War.”
According to the publication, the film will explore Antetokounmpo’s upbringing in Athens, Greece, with his Nigerian immigrant parents. Although further details about the script remain unclear, Antetokounmpo’s life was interesting, to say the least, as the baller did not receive full Greek citizenship until he was 18.
He kicked off his career in basketball with the Greek basketball league and then moved to a Spanish team before he entered the NBA Draft in 2013. Antetokounmpo then went on to become the first player in history to finish in the top 20 for total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. In 2017, he received most improved player, and in 2018, Antetokounmpo was named the MVP.
Now, he has a film in the works.
