Last month it was reported that a FedEx driver dumped at least 400 packages in a ravine in Blount County, Alabama. FedEx driver Deandre Rayshaun Charleston, who was charged with five counts of cargo theft, has shared the reason he did it.
Charleston who is from Adamsville, Alabama, said he was grieving. The driver apparently was distraught over a family loss and had been dealing with other issues.
The estimated worth of the packages dumped was near $40k. Some of the packages ranged from food to children’s toys and dog items. Sheriff Mark Moon held a news conference this past Friday announcing the charges as a Class D felony.
Moon said, “It appeared that he was very sorrowful for what he’d done and just admitted he was having some hard times in his life and just made poor choices.”
About $15,000 of packages were identified to the victims while another $25,000 has not been identified for families. Apparently, Charleston was very cooperative and respectful when talking to investigators.
He understands the significance of what he has done.
