Federal prosecutors say Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr. has come up with a high-profile strategy to escape serious federal charges. A plan that allegedly involves trying to enlist help from Trump.
In a court filing submitted Monday, prosecutors argued Henley should remain in custody as he awaits trial, citing new concerns about his conduct while already behind bars. Among the allegations: that Henley continues to manipulate well-known celebrities and may be planning to leverage political connections to avoid prosecution.
“Even in his short time in custody, he is up to his old tricks, once again trying to use some of those same celebrities for his personal gain,” the filing reads.
According to the brief, Henley, who is facing a range of federal charges including racketeering, kidnapping, and murder, has allegedly floated a plan on recorded jail calls to use politically connected associates — including individuals he is accused of previously defrauding — to reach out to Trump on his behalf.
“He has even suggested that he can manipulate the President of the United States into intervening in the case and dropping the charges, even as he simultaneously derisively refers to the President as ‘the orange man’ while in custody,” the court document states.
Prosecutors describe the alleged plot as an “elaborate plan” that would involve convincing known Trump allies and former associates to advocate for Trump’s support. The irony, they point out, is that Henley appears to be mocking Trump while attempting to benefit from his influence.
Henley’s attorney has not yet commented on the allegations.
Henley is accused of leading a “mafia-like” criminal organization that used gang affiliations to extort and intimidate people across Los Angeles. One of the most serious allegations involves the kidnapping and murder of rapper Rayshawn Williams, who had reportedly been working with Henley at the time.
In addition to racketeering, Henley is also accused of soliciting charitable donations from celebrities under false pretenses and diverting the funds into his own bank account.
As the case develops, federal authorities argue that Henley’s continued influence and alleged attempts to manipulate political figures show why he should not be released while awaiting trial.
