Fight Procrastination Day falls on September 6th, and there are several ways you can celebrate it in order to activate your full potential.
Some outlets credit productivity consultant Ethel Cook with creating Fight Procrastination Day, while others claim life coach Megan Roth is the mastermind behind it. No matter who the actual founder of this unofficial holiday is, the purpose is to remove yourself from the constant loop of putting off important tasks.
According to Cambridge, procrastination is “to keep delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring.” This could include household tasks, errands, making doctor appointments, or more important duties such as job applications and school homework. Putting off such vital responsibilities can lead to numerous negative consequences. This includes stress due to the mounting pressure to fulfill obligations before the deadline. Trying to cram at the last minute can affect sleep patterns and mental health.
Delaying crucial responsibilities can also block personal and professional growth. Imagine putting off an interview or phone call only to learn you’ve been passed up for an opportunity. This may also earn you a reputation for being unreliable. Over time, such self-inflicted setbacks can lead to decreased motivation and even a feeling of hopelessness.
Whether it’s your personal goals, career-related undertakings, or other responsibilities, Fight Procrastination Day is a call to action to get moving, even if you lack the motivation to do so. Here are our Baller Tips to help you break this habit once and for all.
- Create a to-do list with tasks listed from smallest to most important.
- Create your own deadlines that are earlier than those assigned to you.
- Eliminate as many distractions as possible (Yes, this includes social media!)
- Take 30-minute breaks in between tasks to avoid getting overwhelmed.
- Implement a daily routine that is easy to follow each day.
