The first GOP lawmaker has called for the removal of Donald Trump under the 25th Amendment.
On Thursday, Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois addressed the violent MAGA protests that erupted in the nation’s Capitol a day prior. In his video message, the avid Trump critic slammed the deranged president for inciting the violence that resulted in four deaths and 52 arrests.
“The president caused this. The president is unfit, and the president is unwell. And the president now must relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily,” Kinzinger demanded in the video.
His demand for the use of the 25th Amendment comes a day after Republican leaders first began exploring the move. If Trump is impeached and removed, the Senate could vote to disqualify him from future elections. One of the primary roadblocks is that Vice President Mike Pence and a majority of the Cabinet will have to agree to it, which appears unlikely at the moment.
