First U.S. Death From Coronavirus Confirmed in Washington State

A patient with the novel coronavirus has died in Washington state.

According to CNN, further details about the patient in King County were not immediately available.

Trump said in a press briefing earlier today that the coronavirus patient died overnight, describing the patient as a “medically high-risk patient in her late 50s”. He also said she was “a wonderful woman.”

While this has been the first death on American soil, this is not the first American citizen to succumb to the virus.

Earlier this month, a 60-year-old American died in Wuhan, China, where the virus first appeared in late December.

There have been 67 cases of the deadly virus reported in the United States so far, among more than 85,000 globally. More than 2,900 people worldwide have died, most of them in China.
