This time of year is usually a joyful time, but for some, it’s depressive. It’s a reminder to others that they are without family or friends. BA thought it would be awesome to help those of us struggling emotionally during this time of year. Here are five things you can do to overcome depression during the holiday season.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make a gratitude list. Write down everything you are grateful for. When you reflect on the good things you are able to find peace and are more than likely to be in a better mood.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Listen to music. Music is great for the soul. Play some of your favorite tunes and watch your mood improve.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cry. It’s ok to let it out. If you are having a difficult time processing grief from losing a loved one, crying is perfectly fine. Get those emotions out. Regroup and refocus.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reflect on the good times. If you have lost a loved one, this time is extremely hard. After you let it all out with a soul-cleansing cry, think about the good moments you shared with your loved one.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Get out of the house. The sun and fresh air are great for overcoming depression. Go for a brisk walk. Visit some friends. Whatever you have to do to get out, do it so that depression doesn’t overtake you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Realize you aren’t alone. Understand your emotions and actions to work through them. It’s a great time of year and if you change your perspective, it’ll be a more joyous season.
