Florida is proposing a new Senate Bill that will prohibit individuals under the age of 21 from working in adult entertainment venues, making it a misdemeanor for owners, managers, employees, or contractors to employ or contract them.
Senate Bill 1690, introduced by Sen. Clay Yarborough, defines an adult entertainment establishment as an adult bookstore, adult theater, a special cabaret, or an unlicensed massage establishment.
The bill, having advanced from the Criminal Justice Committee with a 6-2 vote, is slated for review on Tuesday by the Appropriations Committee on Criminal and Civil Justice.
According to WFLA, The bill aims to combat human trafficking because “victims of sex trafficking are frequently recruited to work as performers or employees in adult entertainment establishments.”
If the bill passes, it will go into effect on July 1st.
