This past weekend a group of people attacked an operator of a Ferris wheel at a South Florida flea market carnival after seeing him violently assault a Black mother and one of her children.
Bystanders at the Opa Locka Hialeah Flea Market Carnival caught the entire incident on video.
The incident occurred after a mom and her kid were on the ride and wanted off. Once the ride stopped, only the son managed to get off. The operator started the ride again as the mom tried to get off, leaving the child on the ramp and almost knocking him over. The operator’s coworker yelled at him to stop the ride. The operator can then be seen attacking his coworker.
Shortly afterward, the ride stopped again and another mom who was on the Ferris wheel with her child can be seen scolding the ride operator. He then attacked the woman. The two started throwing punches and then several people jumped the gate and attacked the operator, in defense of the woman.
Eventually, the ride was stopped and off-duty police officers working the carnival were called.
Detectives were able to identify the victim and released the following statement:
“Our detectives have interviewed and secured a written statement from the victim and probable cause exists to arrest the carnival employee depicted in the video,” said police. “The Opa-Locka Police Department does not tolerate any criminal acts of violence and will prosecute those individuals to the fullest extent of the law.”
