A Florida grandfather was shot and killed by his neighbor inside a gated community over a Thanksgiving dispute about loud music.
Hureleyon McLean was gunned down just after 3:30 p.m. on November 28th in the Somerset Drive apartments in Lauderdale Lakes. According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, McLean had gone to speak with the man living below him after the neighbor complained about the volume of McLean’s music.
McLean’s wife, Rose, shared the details of the altercation with NBC South Florida.
“He was playing his music, and the guy said he was playing it too loud. So, my husband, he went down to him,” Rose recounted. Moments later, the situation escalated, and the neighbor pulled out a gun, fatally shooting McLean. Rose was unaware her husband had gone downstairs, but she rushed to the door after hearing a single gunshot.
“I heard the gunshot, ‘boom,’ and I just fly to the door. I see my husband lying face down in the blood,” she recalled to WSVN.
Rose also described the alleged shooter’s lack of remorse.
“He wasn’t sorry. He was just standing, looking at me with his gun in his hand the same way,” she said. When the distraught wife confronted him, he reportedly threatened her, “If I didn’t shut my mouth, he would shoot me, too.”
McLean, a father and grandfather, was remembered by his loved ones in a prayer circle outside the apartment. The suspected shooter remained at the scene and claimed self-defense. The case is under investigation, and the Broward County State Attorney’s Office will determine whether charges will be filed.
