A Nova High School basketball coach has been arrested on sex-related charges involving a minor, according to authorities in Broward County, Florida.
Dequan Andre Sierra, 29, was taken into custody on Friday by Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies from the Weston district. He appeared in Broward bond court on Saturday, where a judge found probable cause and set his bond at $50,000, which he has since posted.
According to jail records, Sierra faces:
- One count of solicitation of a minor by an authoritative figure
- One count of unlawful sexual activity with a person aged 16 or 17
Sierra worked at Nova High School as a school monitor and boys’ basketball coach, according to the school’s website. Broward County Public Schools released a statement saying that Sierra has been reassigned away from students pending the outcome of the investigation. If the allegations are proven, he will face termination.
As part of his bond conditions, Sierra has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or any minors.
The investigation is ongoing.
