A Florida Man Admitted to Planning a Murder-For-Hire Plot to Kill His Ex-Girlfriend and Blame it on “Black Lives Matter”

Newsweek reports that a Florida man admitted to a murder-for-hire plot on his ex-girlfriend after he originally blamed the crime on the Black Lives Matter movement.

As part of a plea deal, Daniel Slater, 51, of Palm Beach County, said in a federal district court hearing on July 8 that he was planning to kill his ex-girlfriend and her husband.
According to the Palm Beach Post, her sister and brother-in-law were also targeted for allegedly damaging their relationship.
When Brianne Slabaugh was captured in February 2020, the FBI was alerted of Slater’s plan. Slabaugh said she was being groomed to “kidnap several people associated with his ex-girlfriend.”
Slater then claimed that he took Slabaugh and her boyfriend to his ex-girlfriend’s house to show them where to shoot and spray “Black Lives Matter” on the home to throw off the police investigation and give them the idea the movement were the ones responsible for their deaths.
Slater allegedly promised Slabaugh drugs and money in exchange for her services. Slabaugh died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine less than three weeks after coming forward with her story. Slater was also involved in the murder plot with another individual, who turned out to be an undercover FBI agent who promised to assist in distributing cocaine.
At that time, Slater’s ex had already obtained a restraining order against him. She claimed that she saw a “girl” who turned out to be Slabaugh. In the petition, she wrote, “Daniel Slater has made several threats against my life as well as threats to my family and friends.” She added, “I’ve found two trackers on my car since we’ve been apart. I’ve noticed a heavyset girl following me around and taking videos of me.”
There were also taped phone calls in which Slater described how he wanted someone to “throw acid on her face” and “beat the sh*t out of her, knock her teeth out, break her f*cking nose.”  Slater’s fourth lawyer in the case said that the developing evidence against his clients was “quite voluminous.”
Slater had been charged with a total of six counts, each carrying a potential punishment of 90 years in jail. He has been charged with one count of murder-for-hire and will most likely be sentenced to ten years in prison due to his cooperation.
