Florida Man Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Into Car Where Homeless Family Was Sleeping

Police in Florida have arrested a man who allegedly shot at a homeless family sleeping in a car.

A pregnant woman was injured after a man named Christopher Stamat Jr., 21, allegedly shot into a car while a family was sleeping inside. The incident took place on Wednesday at around 4:30 a.m. NBC News reports the man shot the mother in the head; she’s currently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities arrested Stamat on Saturday; he’s been charged with six felony charges, including four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of second-degree attempted murder and one count of shooting into a vehicle, police say.

“Our community as a whole can sleep easier tonight knowing the suspect linked to this monstrous, random act of violence is no longer free to prey on innocent people,” said Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor in a statement, NBC News reports. The rest of the family was unharmed.
