A Texas man has been taken into custody after kidnapping and murdering his infant daughter.
According to News 12, Gainesville police responded to a call on Monday for a disturbance. Upon arrival, police learned that the infant’s mother, Karina Ortiz (18), the infant (Lyrik), and the child’s father Jeremy Brown (30), were driving when the two got into an altercation. The mother states she was able to get out of the car, but Brown followed behind and assaulted her.
Brown then hopped back into the car and left with their infant daughter still in the car.
On Tuesday, Brown was found in the Red River with the vehicle overturned next to him, submerged into the water.
Chief Kevin Phillips released a written statement about the unfortunate incident. “Jeremy Brown was removed from the river, and medical personnel were on scene to assess him for any injuries. He was taken into custody on the warrant issued earlier in the day. The vehicle was removed from the river, and an infant was located inside the vehicle in a car seat.”
Brown is facing capital murder and family assault charges. He is currently being held at the Cooke County Jail.
