After reporting a corpse that he discovered, a Florida man was arrested and charged.
Sexual predator James Gafford has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kaitlyn Emery, 29.
On April 21, he informed officials that he discovered her dead in a thicket in the woods near a popular Orlando crossroads. On June 10, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division’s Violent Crimes Section apprehended him.
Allegedly the two were acquainted. According to an Orlando Police Department spokesperson, the 55-year-old met Emery at a bus stop on April 19. Though authorities claim he killed her near the stop in a wooded location, it’s unclear how the victim was killed.
Lt. Frank Chisari said in a press conference, “This is a disturbed individual [who] committed a horrible, horrible act here. He had a relationship with her at some point, and he killed her through the course of this relationship.”
Chisari added, “The timeline just kind of matched up with our investigation, as far as when he would have been around and when he would have had the opportunity to commit the homicide.”
