Florida authorities are warning parents about chocolate bars that contain “magic mushrooms.”
On Wednesday, Winter Haven police discovered the laced chocolate bars while executing a recent search warrant at a meth den. The chocolate bars were sent to a lab for testing and came back positive for mushrooms or “shrooms.”
Magic mushroom is a cultivated mushroom containing a psychoactive and hallucinogenic compound called psilocybin. According to police, psilocybin is a Schedule I drug that is not legal in the state.
“Shrooms” can cause several side effects, including increased blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, vomiting, and hallucinations or delusions.
Winter Haven authorities say there haven’t been any reports on children consuming the bars but encourage parents to speak with their children about eating anything that could potentially contain the substance.
