A Florida politician is apologizing for claiming that the coronavirus can be killed by inhaling hot air from a blow.
“So you hold a blow dryer in front of your face, and you inhale with your nose, and it kills all the viruses in your nose,” Okeechobee County Commissioner Bryant Culpepper said Friday at a board meeting.
The Republican said he heard about the method on OANN, a conservative news network favored by Donald Trump.
“It sounds almost too easy, but at this point, anything is worth trying,” Culpepper said. He also said that inhaling steam from boiling water can kill the virus.
The theories have been debunked, but it wasn’t before Culpepper promoted them at the meeting. Some officials covered their faces in disbelief after he made the dangerous suggestion, as most looked on in silence.
Footage from the meeting went viral, prompting an apology from Culpepper.
“I will not offer anymore suggestions unless they are tried and proven,” Culpepper said Sunday. “I ask for all of your forgiveness for anything offensive that I uttered during these exchanges. God Bless and soften your hearts.”
