Miami Beach to Close

Florida Sen. Rick Scott has finally sent a strong message to those people who are packing the beaches in the state amid this outbreak of coronavirus: “Get off the beach.”

The former governor appeared on CNN’s New Day and told host John Berman that, “Unless you can figure out how to completely be isolated from anybody else, I mean, this is — individuals have to take responsibility and every, every level of government has to be very clear, don’t be on the beach unless you can be somehow completely by yourself,” he said.

Scott’s comments come after several health and Trump administration officials issued a guidance urging Americans to practice social distancing to help stop the spread of the virus, encouraging citizens to avoid groups of more than 10 people.

On Wednesday, the White House coronavirus task force also urged younger people to adhere to the guidelines and take the precautions seriously.

In the wake of the outbreak, Miami-Dade County will also close all public beaches and restrict or close non-essential businesses and other recreational and entertainment activities,  Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez announced on Wednesday.

The mayor said the executive order will take effect Thursday evening and covers all public beaches, parks, non-essential retail, private educational facilities, casinos, and other recreational and entertainment activities.
