A shooting in Escambia County, Florida, left a Kennesaw State football player dead early Thursday morning. A passenger in the vehicle was also shot, and that person’s condition is unknown at this time.
11 Alive reports that police were called to the scene of a shooting at 1 a.m. When officers arrived at the intersection of Fairfield and Hollywood, they found two people with multiple gunshot wounds inside of a vehicle.
One victim was identified as 18-year-old Ladarius Clardy, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, who was not identified, was a 19-year-old passenger in Clardy’s car. He was taken to a nearby hospital, and his condition is unknown.Â
“He had a bright athletic history, he had a bright athletic future, but he was killed,” Sheriff Chip Simmons said of Clardy at a press conference. Clardy is listed as a quarterback for the Kennesaw State University football team, according to WSB-TV.
Simmons said that Clardy’s black 2016 Honda was riddled with more than 50 rounds of gunfire. A motive for the shooting was immediately clear. No suspects have been arrested, and the Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s help locating the shooter.
“If you look at your surveillance video and you see that car or any car chasing it, around it, near it — or if you just see that car alone, please give us a call,” the chief said.
