One child is dead, and another was injured after a Florida teen drove into a preschool playground.
At around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 18-year-old Kiara Morant drove her SUV into the Imagination Station Learning Center Preschool’s playground in Arcadia. Two young girls, 4 and 5, were playing at the time.
Fox News reports Morant didn’t have a valid driver’s license and was driving on East Magnolia Street in a Jeep Cherokee. That’s when she drove over a raised curb, hit a street sign and eventually crashed into a fence on the corner of the preschool. Morant’s Jeep then drove into the playground, running into wooden posts before hitting the girls, who were playing in that area. The 4-year-old died after being taken to the hospital, and the other child, 5, was seriously injured.
Morant was bonded out of jail before the 4-year-old passed away. She may face additional charges. “Right now this driver faces several felony charges, just based simply upon the fact that she was not properly licensed,” Florida trooper Ken Watson told Fox 13. “Flat out should not have been behind the wheel at the time.”
