A man police say is affiliated with the MS-13 gang has been accused of murdering a Florida Uber Eats driver in a “demonic” attack.
“This is just a gruesome case. This is horrible,” Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a Tuesday news conference while announcing the arrest of 30-year-old Oscar Adrian Solis, who’s being charged with murder.
“This person just yanked him in and killed him.”
The unidentified victim’s remains were found in “several” trash bags around Solis’ home last week in Holiday, Florida, about an hour north of Tampa.
Nocco said the victim dropped off his wife at home on the early evening of April 19 and went out to make one last delivery. The couple texted back and forth; however, the woman stopped hearing from her husband around 6:43 p.m. when he said he was making his last delivery.
The man never made it home, which prompted his wife to alert local authorities, who then contacted Uber Eats and got coordinates of his last stop. The next day, police went to the house in question to find no one home. They returned the next day and obtained home security footage from Solis’ roommate, which showed the driver walking up to the home. The motion-detecting camera abruptly went dark at the 6:45 p.m. timestamp. The footage also showed Solis the following day carrying trash bags out to the side of the house, police said.
Nocco said detectives searched the bags and found the driver’s dismembered body parts.
Solis, who police say is a “very violent individual,” was initially picked up and booked for failing to register as a felon in Florida and for a parole violation. The charges were upgraded to murder and robbery on Monday.
The suspect had recently moved to Florida to be with his father, who had lived in the house where the delivery driver was killed but moved out prior, making room for his son.
Police don’t believe the suspect knew the victim and are still searching for a motive.
“I kept asking what’s the connection? This was absolutely a horrific crime of passion. This is demonic. What he did was demonic,” Nocco said. “But at the same time, we couldn’t answer the question: ‘Why?’ All that appears is there was a gentleman who was working, he was doing his last delivery for the night, and this person killed him.”
The victim’s wallet, car keys and wedding ring were found in Solis’ possessions. His car was also found abandoned about 0.3 miles from the home with “blood-soaked rags and paper towels, along with a red DoorDash bag similar to the one [the driver] was observed carrying.”
Nocco said Solis’ roommate and father are not currently facing charges now. However, police are looking for two young people who were seen leaving the home shortly before the murder in hopes that they may have information that can help the investigation.
