A Florida woman has been arrested for allegedly throwing her ex-boyfriend’s dog off a balcony from seven floors up.
Shelley Nicole Vaughn, 46, is now looking at several charges, including aggravated animal cruelty felony, criminal mischief and domestic battery, after allegedly throwing her ex-boyfriend’s pug dog Bucky off the balcony of his condo in Clearwater, Fla. The incident reportedly happened during the afternoon on Sunday, and the dog died on impact.
According to authorities, the woman first threw his cell phone and keys.
“Detectives arrest Clearwater woman for throwing a 3-year-old pug to its death off seventh-floor condominium balcony on Clearwater Beach,” said detectives via Twitter. “First, she tossed the cell phone and keys off the balcony belonging to the man she had been dating. She’s on her way to jail this afternoon.”
In a statement, his ex’s attorney said Vaughn appeared “to be drunk and impaired by substances” prior to getting into an argument with her client. As she continued to throw his belongings off the balcony, she grabbed Bucky and tossed him as well. Vaughn’s ex says she smiled before throwing the dog over.
“Eric Adeson is absolutely devastated and heartbroken over Bucky’s horrific death,” the statement continues. “There has been so much turmoil in our society these past couple years, and it seems people are getting more and more comfortable inflicting pain and harm onto others.” Adeson has had the dog since he was a puppy.
Vaughn was arranged Tuesday morning, and her bail was set at $22,000.
