Floyd Mayweather is determined to get back into the ring, and for the main event, he says he wants a rematch against Manny Pacquiao. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While many are opposed to the idea of Mayweather coming out of retirement to risk his record of 50-0, others just don’t buy it. But, according to the president of sports and event programming for Showtime Sports, Mayweather is as serious as a heart attack about the potential fight.
“Having spoken to Floyd, I know he’s deadly serious about it,” Stephen Espinoza said of the possibility. “He’s very serious about wanting the fight.”
The boxing champ called Pacquiao out last month, as he revealed plans for preparation ahead of the potential rematch.
“Before the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch, I will be back in Tokyo for a huge boxing event. Stay tuned,” Mayweather said.
Mayweather retired in 2015, shortly after the highly anticipated bout against Pacquiao in which he won by unanimous decision. Two years later, Mayweather returned to the ring for a onetime fight against Mixed Martial Artist-turned-boxer, Conor McGregor, in which he won by TKO in the 10th round.
The fight against Conor secured Mayweather’s 50-0 record, and became the second highest buy rate for a boxing match ever, behind only the 2015 Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
