Could you imagine an official televised one-on-one basketball game between Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr.? Who would officiate? What would be the official rules of the contest? Would it be fair? Or imagine The Carolina Panthers take on the Golden State Warriors in a football game at the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. These match-up seem farfetched, however, seems like MMA and Boxing may consider the idea of a cross over match.
Rumors of a matchup between World Champion retiree Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor have been circulating. To make it interesting, according to Bleacher Report, ‘Money’ Mayweather has reportedly offered “Notorious” a couple bands to make the fight happen on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.
The offer has been reported to be around $50 million, however, according to TMZ Sports, the fight has not yet been approved by UFC President Dana White, who must approve anything involving UFC-contracted fighters.
“Let me put it to you this way. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are in the same sport. It took how long for those two to fight? Now imagine how hard it would be to get (Mayweather and McGregor) to fight. They’re not in the same sport…. Is this thing going to be MMA or boxing rules? Who’s getting the lion’s share of the money? This and that. It’s impossible. But like I said, “Floyd, you want to fight Conner, call me.” White said in a statement.
The possibilities of this fight happening in the near future are slim to none. However, let’s see how a negotiation between White and Mayweather go.
