Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away unexpectedly on Friday at the age of 50. The band was in Colombia for several scheduled shows at the time of his death.
Hawkins’ death is still under investigation, but investigators have announced that a toxicology screen of his urine showed multiple drugs in his system. According to a release from the Attorney General’s Office in Bogotá, ten different substances were present, including tricyclic antidepressants, THC, benzodiazepines, and opioids.
Emergency services were called to Hawkins’ hotel for reports of a person suffering from chest pains. The drummer was found dead in his hotel room, according to authorities. His death is still under investigation.Â
Hawkins, who joined the Foo Fighters in 1997, has previously spoken about his struggles with substance abuse. He survived a heroin overdose in 2001 that had left him in a coma.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever,” the Foo Fighters said in a post.
