Ford has issued a recall on 39,000 SUV vehicles due to engine fires.
Earlier this week, the car company recalled 39,013 large SUV’s that included the 2021 Ford Expedition and the 2021 Lincoln Navigator. The recall was issued for only vehicles built between Dec. 1, 2020, and April 30, 2021.
The recall comes from problems with the vehicle’s engine bay. The automaker received 16 reports of engine fires in Expedition and Navigator SUVs. Fourteen of those complaints came from car rental companies, while the other two were vehicle owners. Twelve reports said the vehicle was turned off when the fire started, and the remaining says their car was in motion.
Ford has not determined the cause of the fires but recommends parking the vehicles outside and away from any structures. Luckily, the car company has not been notified of any accidents from the defect. However, they did receive one report of a possible injury.
Ford is currently working on finding a solution to the random fires. The company will issue updates to customers via mail and their FordPass and Lincoln Way apps. Car owners will also be able to contact their dealers to receive updated information about the defect.
