Former Atlanta Hawks Player DeShawn Stevenson’s Bank Account Seized For Nearly $400k

DeShawn Stevenson, who last played in the NBA as a member of the Atlanta Hawks in 2013, has apparently been having some financial troubles. According to Bossip, the former Baller had a massive amount of credit card debt that he refused to pay.

Reportedly Stevenson owed American Express $384,000 in unpaid credit card bills. The American Express Centurion Bank took matters to Florida’s Orange County Circuit Court in 2014, where they sued Stevenson for the amount owed on his black card. Not only did Stevenson not pay his credit card bill, he also ignored the lawsuit against him. As a result, the judge in the case granted a default judgment for $384,000.82.

But that was last year. A year goes by and Stevenson has still not paid the $300k that he owes to AMEX. The company then asks the judge to allow them to garnish Stevenson’s bank account to retrieve their money. The judge signs off on the motion and takes the cash out of Stevenson’s Bank of America account. Here’s the problem though, Stevenson only had $62 in his account. $62.09 to be exact.

According to Bossip, who obtained a copy of the lawsuit, American Express will now be on the hunt for other banks or credit unions where DeShawn keeps his cash so they can get their money.

This could be bad for Stevenson considering the fact that he’s been working on opening a new business called “Playoffs Barbershop.” It was set to open this month. With the dings this AMEX situation is putting on his credit score, along with them searching to garnish his bank accounts, starting a business is going to be extremely tough.
