Since the announcement of DeSean Jackson’s departure from the Philadelphia Eagles, NFL analysts and other media have criminalized the 27 year old, saying that possible gang ties were the reason he was cut. One person who came to Jackson’s defense was Derrick Ward, NFL running back from 2004 to 2011. He blasted ESPN, the NFL, Chip Kelly for making DeSean out to be a criminal and using ALLEGED gang ties as a crappy excuse.
“These ESPN analyst sound real dumb right now talking about DeSean Jackson. They think they know what they’re talking about but they don’t.” he began his twitter rant, “ESPN, stop trying to discuss a conversation you know nothing about. U guys are assuming every single thing your talking about right now. I’m sorry but has DeSean Jackson ever been arrested? Suspended? DUI? Drugs? No so why are these dumb asses on ESPN trying to make him seem like he’s a horrible person. The NFL is so Contridictive I swear. Especially these punk ESPN Analysts.”
Don’t think the rant stops there, he continues “I know DeSean very very very well. If the Eagles where so concerned about his “Gang Ties” they wouldnt had drafted him 6 years ago. The Eagles gonna cut DeSean because they “Think” he might know gang members but they’ll keep and resign a well known Racist? I’m born and raised in South Central LA. I have uncles who are still gang bangin cousins who still gang bang. But what does that have to do with someone playing football and ballin out for your team? I’m sorry but Every NFL team knows what their players are doing who they’re hangin out with. In 6 years has he had 1 single incident? 1 single crime? The NFL is a bunch of BS Im so glad I’m done with that joke of a league. Mark my words there won’t be an NFL in the next 20 years watch and see. They’re so worried about who a player knows and a player dunking on the goal post than actually worry about whats really important.”
The rant went on and on but I feel that Derrick Ward made great points. The NFL is enlisting a bunch of new rules in an attempt to “clean up” but is it too little too late? Riley Cooper has used the N-word on more than one occasion, caught on video, yet his team came to his defense, he’s given a raise and re-signed. Fast forward to last month and now you’re fined for use of the word (in any variation) on the field. But think about who would use the word on the field? Black males, of course. So who does the fine harm? Not the drunk racist on the team who just cashed out, but the black kid you took from the inner city because he can run fast and throw a ball really really far.
I’ve noticed in recent years that the NFL is a really contradicting organization. Aaron Hernandez had been getting into trouble since 2007, was drafted and CONTINUED to get into trouble. There was the double homicide in 2012, then shooting his friend in the eye in 2013 and it wasn’t until the last murder that the Patriots finally released him. All they have on DeSean? Instagram photos of him throwing up gang signs. Even though Aaron was photographed with a pistol on Myspace.
If the NFL is worried about having another Aaron Hernandez situation, how about not drafting kids with a criminal history in the first place? Gotta say I’m with Derrick on this one.
