Next week, a former Brooklyn Center police officer serving a 16-month sentence for the murder of Daunte Wright will be released from jail. According to court documents, Kim Potter is set to leave prison on Monday. New photos reveal that Potter’s appearance has drastically changed since her arrest in December 2021.
Potter was found guilty of second-degree murder in Wright’s death and was sentenced to two years in prison. However, her sentence was reduced after Judge Regina Chu determined that the shooting was accidental and unintentional rather than driven by animosity. Potter will complete the remaining months of her sentence under supervised release.
In April 2021, Potter mistakenly fired her gun, intending to use her taser, which resulted in Wright’s death. He died after his car crashed near the scene of the shooting.
Last summer, the City of Brooklyn Center approved a $3.25 million settlement for Wright’s family.
