Former Cop Who Stormed The U.S. Capitol On Jan. 6 Served Seven Years In Prison

A former police officer has received seven years in prison over his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2020, U.S. Capitol riots.

Thomas Robertson once was a sergeant for the Rocky Mount Police Department, but now he’s on the other side of the law as a criminal who’s about to serve seven years for storming the U.S. Capitol. Thirteen months will be deducted from the sentence, as he’s been held in custody for the time.

According to NBC Bay Area, he will also be given three years of supervised release.

With a firearm in hand, Robertson rioted on the Capitol along with hundreds, encouraging violence and spreading false information about the 2020 presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

“It’s a long time because it reflects the seriousness of the offenses that you were convicted of,” said U.S. Judge Christopher Cooper, who served Robertson the sentence.

His sentencing comes after Robertson was found guilty on six counts of his indictment, which included interfering with police officers at the Capitol and entering restricted areas with a dangerous weapon.
