On Thursday, former “ER” actress Vanessa Marquez was shot and killed by California police after they were called to her home for a welfare check.
According to Daily Mail, the incident occurred just before noon after Marquez’s landlord phoned officials to check on a 49-year-old woman, who had been suffering from seizures and appeared to be “gravely disabled.”
Upon arrival, three officers, as well as a mental health care worker, spent an hour and a half trying to help the woman, but as time passed Marquez became increasingly “uncooperative.”
Around 2 pm, according to the publication, officials say Marquez got ahold of what appeared to be a semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at the officers. In turn, officials opened fire on the woman, striking her at least once.
Marquez was then taken to a local hospital, where she died. However, after the fatal incident, officials seized the weapon from the home, and according to police, the gun turned out to be a BB gun.
