Former Falcons LB Thomas Howard Killed in Car Accident in California

Thomas Howard, 30, was one of two people killed in a horrific car accident outside of Oakland, California. The Atlanta Falcons waived Howard on November 12th and it was being reported that the Cincinnati Bengals were possibly going to re-sign him. Howard has played with the Oakland Raiders and the Bengals before signing with the Falcons on October 22nd. Howard was active two games, but was released once the Falcons activated Pro Bowl linebacker Sean Weatherspoon.

According to the police report, witnesses said Howard was driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 880 in California when he lost control of his car and collided with the back of a tractor trailer. Howard’s car then crossed the median into oncoming traffic where it hit  two other cars, including a head-on collision with a Honda CR-V. Police said Howard’s BMW was overturned when they arrived. Both Howard and the driver of the CR-V died on the scene. Sending our prayers to Howard’s family.
