Former first lady and wife to former President Jimmy Carter has passed away.
Rosalynn Carter was an anchor during her husband’s presidency and a trailblazing mental health advocate. She has died at the age of 96, 11 Alive News reported.
According to a release from the Carter Center, she died peacefully with her family at her side.
She was diagnosed with dementia this spring and over the weekend it was reported that she had been moved into hospice with her husband at their Plains, Georgia home.
The Carter Center reported that the two were “spending time with each other and their family.”
The two lived a very humble life together and were advocates in many areas of life during their political careers and following.
