A former ice cream shop owner will have to cough up more than $4,000 for harassing Black Lives Matter protesters.
David Elmendorf – former owner of Bumpy’s Polar Freeze in Schenectady, New York – has been ordered by a judge to pay Black Lives Matter protesters $500 each for harassing and threatening them after they went to his place of work to protest peacefully. The BLM protestors went to his Bumpy’s shop to speak out against racist text messages he allegedly wrote that surfaced online.
The lawsuit also details how Elmendorf allegedly wielded a baton and an air rifle while yelling racist statements. In addition, he is accused of calling the police and falsely reporting armed protesters were threatening to shoot him, NBC New York reports.
Elmendorf is accused of violating demonstrators’ rights to protest peacefully. He’ll now have to pay nine protestors $500 each for his alleged crimes.
