Former Kansas City Chiefs Player Tamba Hali Plans to Build School in Liberia

Former Kansas City Chiefs all-pro linebacker Tamba Hali is building an elementary school in his home country, Liberia. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hali left Liberia when he was 10 years old. Upon arriving in the United States, he could barely read or write, which gives Hali an understanding of how important it is to help the education system in Liberia. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Going back, interacting with the people, the elders, the young people. You can tell because of the civil war and all the negative things that’s happened,” Hali said. “The country is way behind when it comes to education, what my kids are learning, kids there that are 14,15 years old cannot even do. Kids can’t even add, can’t even multiply. You can wonder what the system is like. In my looking at Liberia, it’s to try to create a better Liberia for the future.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hali plans to start small scale then go from there, as the school grows. Hali has a goal to raise $300,000 and start his school from 1st grade. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“We’ll start with the youngest because they’re the ones that will make a difference in 20 years from now in the community there,” Hali said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

After moving to America, Hali was able to excel in school and become a top prep football player at his high school before receiving a scholarship to play football at Penn State University.
