35 year old former Knicks draft pick, Michael Wright, was found dead in the back seat of his SUV on Tuesday morning, covered in garbage bags. Police say he died of a skull fracture. He was found with a puncture wound above his left eye brow.
The 2001 Lexus where Wright’s body was found had been sitting on East 16th Street since Sunday. Wright’s roommate reported him missing from their New Jersey home on Sunday evening. According to the roommate, he hadn’t seen Wright since last Thursday.
Michael Wright was drafted to the Knicks in 2001. “I knew he was a basketball player just by talking to him and through neighbors. He was a nice guy. A gentleman,” a neighbor said. He was a nice guy. He’d sit on his stoop and wave to me.”
Police are investigating Wright’s death as a homicide and believe it is possible he was killed by someone he met on the dating app, Grindr.
