The former Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop, Kim Potter, now faces a first-degree manslaughter charge for his death.
The new, more severe charge is in addition to the previously filed second-degree manslaughter charge Potter faced for the killing of Wright on April 11th.
Potter was a veteran on the force with 26 years of experience when she mistakenly pulled her firearm instead of her taser and fatally shot the 20-year-old man.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office said the new charge Potter faces is first-degree manslaughter by recklessly handling a firearm.
