Former Mississippi Police Who Fatally Shot Black Teen Hasn’t Been Charged

Another tragic story of police misconduct comes out of Mississippi . 15-year-old Cornelius McGee Jr. was fatally shot in the back on May 22 as he fled his girlfriend’s home.

McGee was shot by his girlfriend’s father, who happens to be an ex-officer. Her father previously warned the teen to stay away from his home and disapproved of his daughter’s interracial relationship, Fox 13 News reported.

Jacqueline Rash, McGee’s mother, said her son was not armed and posed no threat when he was killed.

“Why would you shoot him in his back? With his back turned and him running from you, he’s already out [of] your house. Why shoot him?” Rash questioned when speaking to news outlets.

McGee was climbing over a fence when he was shot. News of his killing has since spread, leaving many outraged and calling for justice.

“So you kill a child because your child [is] not listening to you?” one person wrote, “Unless he broke [into] the home with an intent to cause harm, the issue you seek is with your daughter.” Others have called for the unidentified father to face life in prison and called him out for shooting the teen because f his race.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case. However, no charges have been made against the father.
