A former Jackson Public School teacher was sentenced to 15 years on Thursday for two counts of sexual battery. Five years of the sentence will be suspended, but she will be required to register as a sex offender.
Amber Turnage, 42, was accused in 2017 of carrying on a relationship with a 17-year-old Provine High School Student, WLBT reports. According to school officials, she was let go after being indicted on the charges.
An investigation was launched after the student’s father found sexual videos of the former teacher on his teen son’s phone. The teen said he began a relationship with a married Turnage after they met after school.
Turnage claimed the boy tried to control her.
When Turnage was found guilty last month, an attorney for the family said in a statement that her conviction “reaffirms the notion that child predators deserve the shock and outrage which accompany their despicable acts, and in a civilized society, these acts must always be met with the severest punishment.”
