Bianca Cheah, Wellness Influencer, was arrested for fraud at Sydney Airport on Friday. She is accused of duping investors out of 1 million AUD.
The 40-year-old wellness guru, who has 1.3 million followers, was approached by authorities when she arrived in Los Angele. She was taken to Mascot Police Station, where she had two outstanding warrants.
The Herald-Sun reported Ms. Cheah was already expecting to be approached by police when she arrived at the airport.
The lifestyle blogger allegedly misled investors in her online business Sporteluxe and swindled 1 million AUD, an offense that is punishable by up to two years’ jail, the New York Post reported.
Apparently, there was a fraud investigation that led to the arrest of Ms. Cheah. It also included her husband, American Simon Chalmers, from whom she is now separated.
The investigation was started after a civil action brought about in 2018 by investors who gave over AUD 1 million to the then couple’s digital marketing business Sporteluxe.
The investors had alleged revenue figures that helped Ms. Cheah’s modeling and influencing but were fraudulent.
The NSW Supreme Court claims the pair broke Australian consumer law by engaging in deceptive conduct, and both were ordered to repay the funds. They have yet to pay a single dollar, and Ms. Cheah was declared bankrupt in Australia earlier this year.
Ms. Cheah was born in Australia and lived in Sydney before moving to the US in 2016 after marrying Mr. Chalmers, who operates Kings Cross nightclub Beach Haus.
