Florida woman, Marissa Mowry, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old child while serving as a live-in nanny for the child’s family. She later gave birth to the boy’s son.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Mowry was 22 when she was hired to watch the child in January 2014 and soon began to have sexual contact with him. Mowry repeatedly sexually abused the child without using protection and in the fall of 2014, she gave birth to the victim’s child.
Mowry was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to sexual battery and agreeing to be designated a sexual predator. The now 17-year-old victim and his 5-year-old son appeared with the teen’s mother in court and testified that the family initially thought Mowry had a baby with her boyfriend. Once her son later disclosed the abuse, the family did a DNA test, confirming he was the father.
The teen’s mother told the publication the ordeal changed her son’s life, but he’s an “amazing dad,” taking his son to school every day before going to school himself. “It has not ruined his life, but it’s changed his life,” the mother said. “But he has turned into one of the most amazing dads you’ll ever meet.”
The judge sentenced Mowry to 20 years in prison and must complete 10 years of sex offender probation after her release. She will be added to Florida’s sex offender registry, Bay News 9 reports.
