Bobby McCray, the former NFL defensive end, has officially filed for divorce from Khadijah Haqq, more than a year after they initially separated. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, McCray, 43, filed on Friday, August 16, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The documents list their date of separation as July 7, 2023.
McCray and Haqq, who married in 2010, share three children: Christian, 13, Celine, 9, and Kapri, 3. In the filing, McCray requested joint legal and physical custody of all three kids. He is also the father of Bobby III, 20, from a previous relationship. Additionally, McCray has requested spousal support from Haqq and has filed to terminate the court’s ability to grant her spousal support.
Haqq, known for her close friendship with Khloé Kardashian and her appearances in the 2005 movie Sky High, announced their split on Instagram in August 2023. “Now more than ever I have been relying on prayer. Family is so important to me,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, life has brought me to [a] tremendous transition. After 13 years of marriage, 16 years together and 4 incredible children, I have come to the intensely difficult conclusion that while Bobby and I have a great deal of love for one [another], it’s best we move forward, separately.”
Haqq emphasized that the decision was not made lightly, explaining that they had kept their marriage private “for the benefit” of their family. She shared the news publicly to “begin the journey of coparenting,” expressing gratitude for her support system.
McCray, who played in the NFL from 2004 to 2010 for teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and Philadelphia Eagles, rarely discussed their relationship publicly. However, in 2019, Haqq opened up about how she was initially drawn to McCray. “I was very attracted to his stature and the fact that he’s this 6’7 at the time, 260 [lbs.], large, Black, adorable man,” she said on Kin’s Side By Side. “And he would put on tights every Sunday and cleats and crack quarterbacks for a living. I thought that was amazing.”
As the couple navigates their divorce and the challenges of co-parenting, fans are wishing them both strength and peace in this new chapter of their lives.
