Chad Johnson is taking his talents back to the football field, but this time, instead of American football, the 41-year-old baller is trying his luck on the soccer field.
According to Bleacher Report, Johnson had already started five times for Boca Raton Football Club, securing a goal and two assists during his trial. But on Tuesday, the team made it official, in announcing the signing of Johnson to the 2019 season roster.
“After a successful trial with the club, Johnson will begin his soccer career with Boca Raton FC on Saturday, March 16 as Boca Raton FC takes on Port Saint Lucie United in the season opener of the United Premier Soccer League,” the FC said in the release.
“We are excited to have Chad on the club,” the club president, Douglas Heizer, added. “Chad has a tremendous heart and is a joy to be around and has been nothing but a team player since day one with Boca Raton FC.”
Despite Johnson’s decision to change sports, he will still be rocking his legendary “85” for his new team.
“I’m really excited to join the team and contribute in any way possible,” Johnson said of the change. “For me, this is more than just an opportunity but a dream come true that I was never able to fulfill during my childhood.”
