A former Planned Parenthood employee takes his own life while in the middle of a child pornography investigation.
36-year-old Tim Yergeau had previously served as the strategic communications director for Planned Parenthood’s Southern New England branch. According to Fox News, local news outlets verified that he was the individual the police had intended to apprehend in connection to the investigation during a failed raid on April 6th.
“The person who died was definitely the suspect in a child pornography investigation and the person who committed suicide,” New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson later said.
Five days prior to Yergeau’s suicide, the New Haven Police Special Victims Unit conducted a raid on what they believed to be Yergeau’s residence. However, they mistakenly broke into the home of his upstairs neighbor, Stacey Wezenter, handcuffed her, and inquired about Yergeau’s location before noticing her young son’s toys around the apartment and realizing their error.
“Unfortunately, a mistake was made,” Jacobson added. “We feel for the woman, and we’re going to do everything we can to make it right.”
The police have not yet disclosed information about the warrant or charges against Yergeau, citing ongoing investigations related to the case. Additionally, the authorities have chosen not to divulge any details regarding the findings during the search of Yergeau’s apartment.
In the meantime, Wezenter has filed a formal complaint with the New Haven Police Department, claiming that she was deeply distressed by the raid and the unwarranted use of handcuffs.
“What if I had a gun permit? What if I came down the hallway with a gun? Would I have gotten shot? What if my 4-year-old had woken up? Would they have shot him?” Wezenter said. “You just don’t do that to people.”
