Some of the most popular R&B girl group members from the 1990s and 2000s are forming a new supergroup.
BET’s latest reality show, “BET Presents The Encore,” which premieres next month, will feature eight former members of platinum-selling groups such as 702, Total, Danity Kane, 3LW, Blaque, and Cherish.
Pamela Long of Total, sisters Irish and LeMisha Grinstead of 702, Shamari DeVoe of Blaque, Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane, Kiely Williams of 3LW, and twins Felisha and Fallon King of Cherish, as well as Grammy-nominated singer Nivea, are among the cast members.
According to The Associated Press, the singers will live together for 30 days to record an album in a home studio, study choreography, and practice vocals.
After a preview of the pilot featuring 3LW’s Williams and former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin leaked last year, interest in the show skyrocketed. BET ordered a full season of the 10-episode series after the video went viral.
“I’m super proud of this show,” said executive producer Carlos King, “It’s a love letter to girl groups. It’s a love letter to this genre that I feel like has always been super underrepresented, and I truly hope with the success of this show…it reignites the record labels to invest more in girl groups. I definitely think there’s an appetite for that.”
